This guide will show you how to save everyone and reach the end of Directive 8020 with all eight characters alive.
Like the other Dark Pictures Anthology games, the choices and actions you make throughout the story determine who lives and who dies. This guide will show you the best path to take to ensure every character survives until the end.
One of the helpful features in Directive 8020 is the flowchart system, which shows the different story paths and provides clues on how to reach them. If you are playing on Explorer difficulty, you can rewind to any point in the flowchart at any time to correct mistakes if something goes wrong. On other difficulties, you must first complete the game once before the rewind feature becomes available. Keep in mind that rewinding the flowchart requires you to replay the game from that point onward.
Also note that only the eight main characters need to survive. Simms and Carter do not count toward the achievement.
This is not the only path you can take through the game to keep everyone alive, but this method has been fully tested and confirmed to work.
Here are the important steps you must take throughout the game:
As a general rule, do not let enemies catch you during any chase or stealth sections, as this can lead to characters dying. If you are playing on the easiest difficulty, you will have infinite parries if an enemy does catch you. However, be especially careful at the start of Chapter 4, where Anders guides Samantha Cooper through a section filled with enemies. In this section, being caught by certain enemies that cannot be parried will result in an injury that can lead to her death later in the game.
In general, make sure not to miss any QTEs during dangerous situations.
Episode 2 - Little Faith. When Nolan Stafford is talking to Mitchell, choose the TRUST option.
Episode 2 - Power Games. When interacting with the terminal as Brianna Young, choose the DEACTIVATE LANDING COMPUTER option.
Episode 2 - Pursuit. While following Simms through the Fuel Junction as Laura Eisele, make sure she does not see you. She will then use a terminal to deactivate the fire control systems. Make sure you use the terminal to reactivate them.
Episode 3 - Crash. During the crash landing in Episode 3, choose SIT DOWN to prevent Nolan Stafford from dying in the crash.
Episode 3 - Regroup. After returning to the Pod Room, speak with Anders and Williams and choose the JOKE option during both conversations. This increases Cooper’s “Playful” stat, which is required to unlock the THE ROUGE Destiny later in the game.
Episode 3 - Search. Here, you will take control of Samantha while accompanied by Anders. During this section, press Triangle to open your messages and message Williams. During the conversation, choose the JOKE option to further increase Samantha’s “Playful” stat.
Episode 3 - Search. In the same section as the previous step, you will use a power cell to open a door and enter a large room with a massive screen in the center. Wait for Anders to move near the screen, then speak with her and choose the JOKE option followed by DISMISS to further increase your “Playful” stat.
Episode 4 - Overwatch. At the start of Episode 4, you will need to sneak past several enemies as Samantha Cooper while Anders guides you using the cameras. It is very important that you do not get hit during this section, as some enemies cannot be parried even on the easiest difficulties. Getting hit here will injure Samantha and lead to her death later in the game. If this happens and you are playing on Explorer difficulty, simply rewind the flowchart and try again.
Episode 5 - Drugs. Here, you will need to solve a puzzle that involves combining the correct ingredients to create a sedative. Before solving the puzzle and speaking with Anders in the storage room, you can increase your “Playful” stat a little more by opening your messages, messaging Nolan, and selecting the JOKE option. If you chose JOKE during all of the previous steps, you should already have more than enough “Playful” points by this stage, but this is a good extra safeguard if you want to be completely safe.
Episode 5 - Drugs. After creating the sedative, you will need to return to Anders in the Storage Room. If you made the correct choices with Samantha Cooper and increased her “Playful” attribute enough by selecting the JOKE options throughout the game, she will agree with Anders and help sedate Williams, unlocking her THE ROGUE Destiny. Combined with choosing the TRUST option in Episode 3, this will ensure that Williams survives.
Episode 5 - Under Pressure. Here, you will have to choose whether to save Anders or Mitchell. Choose SAVE ANDERS, since we reactivated the fire protection system in Episode 2, Mitchell will survive.
Episode 6 - Point Blank. As Nolan Stafford, you will have to decide whether to shoot Williams or not. Choose STAND DOWN.
Episode 6 - Eisele Double. After everyone goes through the scanner, you will be confronted by two versions of Laura Eisele. Choose TEST, then shoot the one on the LEFT (SHOOT EISELE).
Episode 7 - Search Party. During Episode 7, you will lose Anders and eventually reach a fork in the road where the scanner will indicate that Anders went both left and right. Make sure you take the RIGHT path.
Episode 8 - Opposition. When Williams wants to stay behind, choose ORDER to force him to stay with the group.
Episode 8 - Snap Decision. Near the end of Episode 8, while escaping from the creature as Laura Eisele and Nolan Stafford after redirecting the fuel, make sure to HELP Nolan when he is dragged across the floor by the tentacle creature.
Episode 8 - Knock Knock. Near the end of Episode 8, when Mitchell is banging on the door trying to get in, choose SAVE and open the door.
If you followed the steps and finished the game with everyone alive you will get the Humanitarian trophy after the credits and returning to the main menu!
