The Switch 2 version of Ocarina of Time is a full remake, not a remaster, and the changes run deeper than the new look. This page collects everything that is new or different from the 1998 game, from the fifth bottle and the bigger wallets to the jump button and the quest log.
A fifth bottle
There is a fifth bottle (obtained in the potion shop).
Business Scrub Seed
The Business Scrub Seed summons a scrub shop, and scrubs appear in new places, some with passwords.
Echo Gem
The Echo Gem replaces the Stone of Agony and points you to Gold Skulltulas; some spiders have moved or need different tools.
Equipment menu
The Lens of Truth and the Ocarina have moved to the Equipment menu and the D-pad, and the item menu is split into child / adult / both.
Rupees
Wallets hold 200 / 500 / 1,000 Rupees. Great Fairies charge 25 to 500 Rupees on the first visit. There are fewer hidden Rupees, and enemy drops are smaller.
Collectibles
Two heart pieces have been relocated to Hyrule Field, behind Fairy Thoughts, and a Gold Skulltula spot has been added at Lake Hylia. The map also counts the hearts and spiders found in each area.
Fairy Thoughts
There are now symbols known as Fairy Thoughts on some walls (hints and healing riddles).
World
Time keeps moving in towns and indoors, NPCs move about and talk to each other, and the music differs between day and night.
Some Grotto entrances are bombable stone circles and wind plants.
Houses load seamlessly.
The drawbridge never closes, and its chains cannot be climbed.
Heat sets your tunic on fire after 4 seconds, and without the Zora Tunic, water drowns you over time.
There is a Hall of Fallen Foes with boss rematches and three boss rushes.
Controls
There is a jump button (no auto-jump; jump attacks need jump + attack), you sprint by holding roll, and there is no stamina. You also get a free camera, over-the-shoulder gyro aiming, an item quick-select bar and strafing with the Hylian Shield as a child.
Dungeons
The Forest Temple's first door is locked, the Water Temple has two fewer keys, and Jabu-Jabu is shorter, with Ruto waiting for you. The temples also have colour coding and map icons.
Getting the Lens of Truth before the Water Temple earns new Sheik dialogue.
Quest log
The Threads of Time quest log points you in the right direction for both main quests and side quests.
Voiced cutscenes
Cutscenes are voiced (Link stays silent).
Ocarina
You can play songs by humming into the mic or with a real instrument.
No Master Quest
There is no Master Quest, no Hero Mode and no new dungeons at launch. The Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo (2027) unlock retro masks.
