Toxic Commando Trophy Guide

Welcome to our Toxic Commando Trophy Guide, where you can find everything you need to 100% the game.

Summary

  • Estimated Time to Platinum: 60-90 Hours. Leveling all four classes to the maximum level can take quite some time, depending on the difficulty you are comfortable playing on and the teammates you play with.
  • Difficulty: 5-7/10. Finishing each mission on "Very Hard" can be a challenge, depending on who you play with. Playing with the CPU can be very difficult.
  • Missable Trophies: None
  • Playthroughs Needed: 2+. You will need to finish all missions on Hard and then on Very Hard. After that, you will need to replay missions of your choice A LOT of times.

Intro

Toxic Commando is a four-player co-op shooter where each mission drops you into a small to medium-sized open-world map with several main objectives and optional side objectives. You are free to explore and take your time, which is actually the recommended approach, especially on higher difficulties.

There are a total of nine missions in the game, and each one can be replayed as many times as you like across multiple difficulty levels. The game is designed around replayability, with a light roguelike element that keeps missions feeling fresh. Enemy spawn locations, some objective locations, and optional objectives can change between runs, meaning no two playthroughs feel exactly the same.

To earn the Platinum, you will need to complete all nine missions on Very Hard difficulty. This means you must first finish them on Hard to unlock Very Hard for each mission. In addition, you will need to level all four classes to the maximum level of 40. This is by far the longest trophy in the game and will take the most time to complete.

The amount of XP you earn depends on the difficulty you play on, so consistently completing missions on Very Hard is the most efficient way to level up. However, this can be quite challenging and is much easier with a coordinated team, as playing with CPU teammates on Very Hard can be extremely difficult.

Fortunately, nothing in the game is missable since all missions can be replayed as many times as you like. The remaining miscellaneous trophies may require some additional grinding, but most of them will unlock naturally while working toward leveling all four classes.

Step 1. Finish Every Mission on Hard.

Start by completing all 9 missions on Hard difficulty. Doing so will unlock the Very Hard difficulty for each mission.

You can alternatively jump straight into Very Hard by selecting "Quick Game", but you won’t be able to choose which mission you play. I strongly recommend completing all missions on Hard first to get familiar with the mechanics and earn some skill points for your preferred class, as Very Hard can be quite challenging depending on your team composition.

Step 2. Finish Every Mission on Very Hard.

Once you have completed all missions on Hard, Very Hard will become selectable for each one. To earn the Platinum Trophy, you must complete every mission on Very Hard.

This will be the toughest part of the game. I highly recommend playing with a pre-made squad. When matchmaking with random players, longer missions can become frustrating depending on team coordination.

On Very Hard, each player can only go down once (after that you team will have to go to your coccoon to revive you), enemies will be more aggressive, there will be more larger enemies, they will have more HP and take you down in just a few hits. So Team composition is extremely important. Make sure to include a healer and try to stick with one class that you have already leveled up. I also recommend completing as many side objectives as possible before heading to the main objective. In particular, try to obtain a Sludge Seed, which acts as an auto-revive, and collect as many Spare Parts as possible to make the main objectives easier.

If you don’t feel ready yet, continue replaying missions on Hard to level up your class and make the challenge more manageable.

Step 3. The Class Grind.

This will likely be the longest step on your road to Platinum. For the "Sage" trophy, you must reach level 40 with all four classes.

If you’ve used the same class throughout your Hard and Very Hard playthroughs, you may already be close to max level with that class. You will then need to repeat the process with the remaining three classes.

Keep in mind that higher difficulties grant more XP, so if you are comfortable on Very Hard, that will be the most efficient way to level up since you get x3 Class XP. You will still earn some XP even if you fail a mission, but the majority comes from successfully completing it, so if you cannot consistently finish missions on Very Hard, lower the difficulty until you find one you can complete reliably. Also, try to find a Sludge Seeds during missions. These essentially act as an auto-revive. However, if you keep one in your inventory until the end of the mission, it will grant you bonus XP. There is also an "Insane" difficulty available. However, it mainly rewards additional currency. While it does provide increased Class XP, the multiplier is only 2.5x.

For efficiency, I recommend grinding a shorter mission such as "Church of the Damned".

Step 4. Miscellaneous Cleanup.

After completing all missions on Hard and Very Hard, and leveling all four classes to 40, you will likely have earned most of the miscellaneous trophies naturally.

Now is the time to clean up any remaining trophies. Nothing is missable, and every mission can be replayed as many times as needed.

From Beginning to End
Complete all campaign missions on any difficulty.

Finish all 9 campaign missions on any difficulty.

Toxic Commando: Master
Complete all missions on Very Hard difficulty.

Finish every mission on Very Hard difficulty. Normally, you must first complete each mission on Hard to unlock Very Hard for that specific mission. Alternatively, you can search for a Quick Match set to Very Hard and play a random mission, even if you have not completed it on Hard beforehand. Very Hard can be quite challenging depending on your team. Playing with CPU teammates can be especially difficult. On this difficulty, enemies deal significantly more damage, have increased health, and you can only be downed once before being eliminated. I recommend playing the game for a while first to get a feel for it and leveling up a class’s skill tree a bit before attempting this. It’s best to play with a premade group, as teamwork is very important. Try to stay close together and move as a unit whenever possible. It is also a good idea to complete a few optional objectives before heading to the main objective, especially finding Sludge Seeds for the auto revive and collecting a few Spare Parts to help your team survive longer.

Goon Derailer
Kill a charging Goon with Combat Gear.

Goons are large enemies that will charge at you. If they hit you, there is a good chance you will go down. To unlock the trophy, you must defeat one while it is charging using any Combat Gear. The easiest method is to place a C4 between you and the Goon. Shoot the Goon a few times to weaken it, then detonate the C4 as it runs over it.

Smell of Napalm
Set 30 enemies on fire with a single Molotov cocktail.

Select the Molotov as your Combat Gear in the Loadout menu. Then play a mission like "Church of the Damned" and get to the final objective where you have to defend the 2 gates. Let zombies pile up at a gate and throw the Molotov into them. Best done on Story difficulty since they will have much less HP.

Improper Use
Kill 100 enemies using gas canisters as melee weapons.

Gas Cans are normally used to refuel vehicles. However, if you press the L1 button while holding one, you can use it as a melee weapon. They are not very powerful and will take several hits to defeat even a basic zombie. Kill 100 enemies this way to unlock the trophy.

Slob Slayer
Kill a Slob using a melee weapon.

Slobs are large zombies with long arms. Shoot one a few times to weaken it, then finish it off with your melee weapon. This will be much easier on Story difficulty since they have reduced health.

Chill Out!
Overheat a machine gun 10 times.

Machine guns can be found in most main objective areas. These are turrets that cost 1 Spare Part to activate. Once activated, they will overheat if you keep firing without stopping to let them cool down. Overheat them 10 times to unlock the trophy.

Natural Born Healer
Restore 10,000 HP to teammates using the Healing Aura ability.

Healing Aura is the first ability you unlock in the Healer class skill tree. When it is ready, press () + () to place a healing aura on the ground that restores health to nearby allies. Restore a total of 10,000 HP to unlock the trophy.

Bull's-Eye
Kill 15 enemies in a single shot with the Fireball ability.

Fireball is the first ability you unlock for the Strike class. Activate it by pressing () + (), then fire it at a large group of enemies to get the trophy. This will likely come naturally, but if you cannot find a large group, play the "Church of the Damned" mission and reach the final objective. Let the zombies build up at one of the gates you have to defend, then use Fireball on the group.

Cold Cruelty
Kill 5,000 enemies with melee weapons.

This could potentially be the last trophy you have left, even after finishing the class grind. Defeating 5,000 enemies with melee weapons will likely not come naturally. I recommend playing a few missions on Story difficulty every now and then and focusing only on melee kills to steadily work toward it.

Hot Cruelty
Kill 1,000 enemies by blowing up fuel barrels or gas canisters.

During missions you will find explosive barrels scattered around the map. Shooting them will cause them to explode and kill any nearby zombies. Kill 1,000 enemies this way to unlock the trophy.

Bloodhound
Finish a mission while carrying the Sludge Seed.

Sludge Seeds act as an auto-revive in Toxic Commando. However, if you finish a match with one still in your inventory, it will grant you bonus XP at the end of the game. Keep an eye out for the blue icons on the map, as these mark the locations where Sludge Seeds can be found.

Gold Digger
Collect 10,000 Sludgite during campaign missions.

Sludgite is one of the currencies in Toxic Commando and appears as orange crystals. You will most likely unlock this trophy naturally while grinding through missions. Keep an eye out for Sludgite "trees" during missions, as these provide large amounts of Sludgite when collected. You will also receive some as a reward for completing missions, but those do not count toward the trophy.

Road Trip
Travel 50 km total in any type of vehicle.

This will come naturally. Every map has random vehicles scattered around, and some missions require you to drive them. You should reach 50 km fairly quickly just by playing through the missions.

Topped Off
Refuel the car's gas tank 30 times.

This will come naturally over time. Vehicles require fuel and run out relatively quickly. To refuel, grab a Gas Can, walk up to the vehicle, and interact with the fuel cap (normally on the side). Do this a total of 30 times to unlock the trophy.

Mechanic
Restore 100,000 HP to vehicles.

Vehicles take damage and lose health whenever they are hit. To repair one, walk up to the front of the vehicle, interact with it, and complete the minigame. Restore a total of 10,000 health to unlock the trophy.

Shield Basher
Kill 500 enemies using a Defender's barrier.

The Barrier ability is the first ability you unlock in the Defender’s skill tree. Once it is ready, press () + () to activate it. The shield will damage enemies that touch it. Kill 500 enemies with it to unlock the trophy.

Ammo Saver
Kill 300 enemies with Nuker explosions.

Nukers are the round enemies that run at you and explode. You can shoot these enemies to get them to explode. Do this and kill 300 enemies with these explosions to get the trophies.

Elusive
Avoid capture by a Snare after being its target.

Snares are large enemies that can appear at random. They go underground and then attack you from beneath. You can tell when one is targeting you because the edges of your screen will darken. When this happens, keep running and vaulting over obstacles to escape before it grabs you.

Air Raid
Kill 1,000 enemies using an Operator's drone.

The drone is the first ability you unlock in the Operator class skill tree. Equip it in the skill tree, then summon it by pressing () + () once it is ready. The drone will automatically shoot nearby enemies. Defeat 1,000 enemies with it to unlock the trophy.

Sharpshooter
Deal 100,000 damage to enemies' weak spots.

This will come naturally. Simply shoot the red pustules on larger zombies to deal weak spot damage. While 100,000 damage may sound like a lot, this trophy will be far from the last one you unlock.

Fast Reflexes
Kill a Snare after it grabs a teammate but before it damages them.

Snares are large enemies that can appear at random. They go underground and attack from beneath, and they also have a grab attack. To get the trophy, weaken one and then wait for it to grab a teammate. As soon as it does, quickly kill the Snare before it deals any damage.

Ride Together, Die Together
Complete any mission with 3 players from your in-game friend list.

Play and finish a mission with three friends from your friend list.

Test Driver
Drive each vehicle type at least once.

There are a total of 10 types of vehicles in Toxic Commando. Six of them will spawn at random during any mission and the other four are mission specific. Here is the list:

Maveric: Spawns at random during any mission.
Grit: Spawns at random during any mission.
Thunder: Spawns at random during any mission.
Ambulance: Spawns at random during any mission.
Crest: Spawns at random during any mission.
Banshee: Spawns at random during any mission.
Anti-Sludge Vehicle: You will use this vehicle during the "Demon Bait" mission.
Trap Truck: You will use this vehicle during the "Catch and Kill" mission.
Cargo Truck: You will use this vehicle during the "Deliver Us" mission.
God-Killer Truck: You will use this vehicle during "The Pit" mission.

Clean Run
Complete "Root of Evil" without a sludge infection.

During the "Root of Evil" mission, you must stay within range of the portable shield at all times. If you remain outside the shield’s range for too long, you will become infected. During the first part of the mission, the shield is attached to the car, so simply stay close to the vehicle or get inside it to avoid the infection. Later in the mission, the shield will detach from the vehicle and one of the team members will need to carry it to protect the group. The shield’s range is fairly limited, so if you want to avoid the risk of another player moving unpredictably, it is best to carry the shield yourself. This ensures you remain protected at all times. Simply complete the mission without ever getting infected to unlock the trophy.

We Are Professionals
Complete a campaign mission without any of your teammates getting incapacitated.

Ensure that no teammate goes down during a mission. This is best done on Story difficulty with a premade group of friends. Play a shorter mission such as "Church of the Damned," which should make the trophy much easier to achieve. It is also a good idea to have at least one healer and defender on the team to help mitigate incoming damage.

Can Opener
Open a stash using the vehicle's winch.

You will actually earn this during the tutorial. After the first drive, the game will tell you to “Search the Stash.” Simply use the car’s winch to open it and the trophy will unlock.

Untouchable
Complete a mission on Hard or Very Hard difficulty without taking damage.

This may come naturally if you are grinding XP on Very Hard. However, it can still be challenging depending on you and your team. You should stick together throughout the mission to cover each other and ensure that teammates focus on the main objectives so you are not exposed to damage while completing them. The easiest mission to attempt this on is "Church of the Damned," as it is one of the shortest missions. During the final objective, the zombies will usually focus on attacking the gates rather than the players, which makes avoiding damage much easier.

Clear the Path
Kill 100 sludge tendrils.

Sludge Tendrils are large plant-like enemies that shoot lasers at you. They can appear at random points of interest in all missions. Destroy 100 of them to unlock the trophy.

That's a Good Deal!
Kill 50 enemies with a single heavy weapon without switching between weapons.

Heavy weapons can be obtained from yellow crates that cost 1 Spare Part to open. These can include grenade launchers, railguns, and other special weapons. Wait for a large group of zombies to gather, then fire the entire round into them to quickly rack up kills. You can also find heavy weapons for free at the start of missions in purple crates when playing on Story difficulty.

Vehicular Homicide
Run over 1,000 enemies with a vehicle.

This will most likely come naturally during the grind. Just try and be the driver as many times as possible and you will end up running over enemies withrout trying.

Hold the Door!
Prevent enemies from damaging the church gates in "Church of the Damned."

To get this trophy, you must reach the final objective in the "Church of the Damned" mission and prevent any zombies from hitting the gates. This can be tricky, so the best approach is to play on Story difficulty, as enemies will go down much faster. Before heading to the final objective, try to collect as many Spare Parts as possible from around the map. This will allow you to activate traps and place turrets to deal with the incoming zombies more easily. It is also a good idea to save your abilities and only use them when you really need them.

Is That All You Got?
Complete a mission on Very Hard difficulty without getting incapacitated.

Finish any mission on Very Hard without going down. This can be a little tricky, but it will likely come naturally during the grind. Pick a short mission like "Church of The Damaned" that can be finished relatively quickly, that way if you go down, you don't have to play through a long mission to try again.

Sage
Reach maximum level with every class.

This will likely be the longest step on your road to Platinum. For the "Sage" trophy, you must reach level 40 with all four classes.

Arms Baron
Upgrade a weapon to its maximum level.

Get any weapon to Level 10. Just use the same weapon until you get it to Level 10. This will happen relatively fast. No need to upgrade the tier of enter prestige for this trophy.

Weapon Connoisseur
Kill at least one enemy with 19 primary or secondary weapons.

There are a total of 19 weapons (16 primary and 3 secondary). So basically, you have to get one kill with every weapon. All weapons are available from the start and can be selected in the Loadout menu.

We're All Friends Here
Complete a campaign mission without damaging your teammates.

Avoid shooting anyone on your team during one whole mission.

Who's Counting Anyway?
Kill 53,601 enemies.

This will be one of the last trophies and will come naturally as you get close to getting all 4 classes to max level.
